Get the tissues ready...

Hi guys! My Uncle Marks service was yesterday and his brother, Danny, wrote an amazing eulogy and I just wanted to share it with everyone.

Eulogy by brother Dan Roland
Today we mourn and honor the passing of beloved Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Grandfather, Nephew, Cousin, and very dear friend, Mark Gallina.
Mark was a fearless man. He was a true reflection of his upbringing. One of character, one of values, one of honesty and one of integrity. He was a man of great conviction, a man of dignity and a man of heart.
His hard work and preserverance propelled him to be on top of the world.
A place where he loved to be so much,
so long as he could be there and enjoy it with others.
Yet being there, never stopped him from reaching out and lending a hand or made him lose sight of the lessons in life that brought him there.
If caring, sharing and support needed a definition, it would be defined as Mark Gallina.
His life revovled around family life.
A life where he could work and play right along side loved ones. A right he earned along side his loving wife, through their hard work, dedication and sacrifice.
His greatest treasures of all are his children. He was as proud of his children as any of us are proud of ours. You only need to spend a few minutes with them to realize his impact on their young lives.
Mark was also a man with tremendous vision. He could be anything he wanted to, on any given day. He was blessed with a confidence that didn't allow him to fail or back away from, but rather, take on anything life would throw at him.
The good, and the not so good.
His ability to remain optimistic through his illness had shown a strength and courage that epitomized what the meaning of strength truly is. A strength and courage that could inspire all of us, for the day, when the Lord calls our name.
Equally, when I speak of his bravery, I am also speaking of his dear wife and children, who have also endeared pain and suffering, ...beyond words.
They too have shown stregth and courage that only comes from a true test of faith.
Their absolute faith and trust in God eased their suffering and gave them peace,
when peace was needed the most.
We can all find solace through their example of faith, to help ease our pain for his loss.
So today we gather to remember a man, a warm man, a kind man, a man with a distinct uniqueness. A man that has touched our daily lives with his personality, his charm, his willingness, his love and sincerity,
A man we'll cherish in our memories forever.
We are deeply saddened today, for life has shorted him.
Yet we are equally joyous, for our Lord has rewarded him.
With a place for his soul, One of Glory, One of Peace, One of Eternity
One Heaven
So farewell for now dear husband, my father, my son, my brother, my grandfather, my nephew, my cousin and our very dear friend ...Mark Gallina

Bookmarks...

Hi guys! Here is my latest design, Bookmarks! I had some extra Hand Dyed Silk Cord laying around and was intching to use it. The Silk Cord is nice and soft so it doesn't mar your pages up. I took a few of my favorite Lampwork beads, added a few Thai silver charms, and threw in some lime green shell. This one is all mine, but they can be Custom Ordered in any color (s). These would make an excellent gift for a booklover... I will have better pictures soon I just snapped these so I could show off my newest design idea.

Its freezing outside today, man 20 degrees! The dogs are having a ball in the inch of snow. It will be gone sunday though. It will be back! I have a terrible headache I am off to veg and try to get rid of it.

Happy Thanksgiving...

I want to wish everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving. Take a moment to give thanks for what you do have and what is going good in your life. I am thankful for my strength as a person, my talents, my close friends who listen to me rant, and my dogs for always being the constant in my life.

Updates...

My Uncle Mark passed away last night. He had a long, hard battle with pancreatic cancer. He died way too young and left behind many brothers and sisters, along with a wonderful wife and five kids. He will be missed by so many.

Ranting...

Hi guys! Thanks for putting up with my ranting. My uncle Mark is still holding on. Did you ever get that feeling that you need to make a serious change in your life? Well I did, and I have. I'm going a little nuts over here, maybe even a little off my rocker. Between all of the sickness, death, and stress around me for the last five years, I have barreled through. I keep wondering if all at once I am going to fall very apart. Hopefully that will never happen, I am going to try my hardest to keep myself together. I am praying tomorrow we find out my moms surgery date. This week we should have all of the windows in my parents house replaced. The next two weeks are going to be insane, to say the least. So email and phone replies may be a bit delayed, but bear with me I will get back to you!
This week I also hope to get a bunch of those 'Fiesta' Necklaces up too. As far as a major change I need to run away from life for a little while and go where almost no one knows me. I need to sort of refind myself. Orders will still be shipped in 24 hours, I will post my new mailing address, and I will still be designing. I've never done anything close to running away for awhile. Everything I've always done was sort of safe and planned out. Me and my doggies are going on a roadtrip! I am going to go do some laundrey (my most favorite part of my day ;-) and trim some doggy feet. I will be back with new pieces this week!!!

Life and Death...

Everything happens for a reason, but why do people have to get cancer and die. I know it may seem blunt or pointless, but it really sucks. No one deserves to get sick. Especially someone who is young and worked all of his life to build a very sucessful farm and have a wife and five amazing kids. My Uncle is passing away. He was taken to Hospice this morning, they are not sure how much longer it will be. I was not very close with him but I have so many happy memories of him. I am not one for funerals or wakes. I just do not do them anymore. I prefer to morn as I go and remember the good times. I will always remember my Uncle Mark smiling riding one of his tractors, or a horse, or dressing up as Santa Claus on Christmas. But there is a reason for this happening now. His mother, my grandmother, also has cancer. I have no idea what she and my grandfather are going through right now, or what they will go through. What do you really say to someone whos son is dying?
I am sorry for being a bit down today. We have to pick ourselves up and keep going because we are doing no good sitting and crying. I think the thing I am taking away from my Uncle is, he worked so hard all of his life to build everything up so that he and his wife would have a carefree retirement. He worked so hard. Sometimes I think we have to live in the moment and today rather then tomorrow or ten years from now. Within our means though. Its so easy to say, just take a break or a vacation. For now I have my mental time outs where I design my Jewelry or read. I try to take myself to another place and time. But then you have to come back to reality and deal with todays situtation. I think families are not what they used to be years ago. Years ago everyone was close, now families tend to get together only for Christmas or Funerals.
In closing, don't forget the people who really matter to you. Tell them you love them or how much you care about them, or how much you appreciate them.

Everything Happens for a Reason...

Hi guys! I feel like being inspurational today. I have always lived by the sentiment, 'Everything happens for a reason.' There is a reason for everything. The really crappy part is that we don't know the reasons when things are happening. We find them out at a later time. Do I take this road or that one?, Do I take this job or go back to school for the job I really want?, or it can be as simple as What do I wear today? I used to wish that life came with a handbook, one that would tell you all of the paths you could follow and the results of each. A few years ago I threw out that handbook idea. Life is life, we are all going down destined paths. Some of us have harder paths than others, but I think we are all meant to travel the roads we travel. I have to keep reminding myself to look at all of the good that I have in my life right now and not all of the bad.
Yesterday we had an uprising with my moms Dr's. Her neorologist all of the sudden wanted to put off her surgery until next year! Needless to say her Pain Management Dr got right on the phone and all is well. We are waiting for her exact date of surgery but they are going to try to for next week. And my dad found out that as of next week Wednesday he is Retired! He works for an auto parts company and they are moving all of their US plants overseas and to Mexico. I almost think he is a little scared. He is not one to sit still and relax for very long. Well I am off to give poor Devon a bath. He had an upset tummy this morning. Hes feeling better now. Go out and inspire someone...

Mob Food...

I am a book addict and always loved Jenny Crusie's work. But her latest collaberation with Bob Mayer takes the cake! I know it sounds a little infomercially, but its true. I LOVE this book. I have read it five times in the last two weeks (a little obsessive I know). Agnes and the Hitman gets two thumbs up from me ;-) And I found this very cool mug that goes along with the book.

In Jewelry newz... The Fiesta Necklaces won't be ready until next week. I had to put my chain order on hold and will put it through this week. Man Silver sure skyrocketed! Holy cow it was almost $16 an ounce last Friday!!! For those of you who aren't silver price savy, its normally around $12-13 and used to be less. I try to get the best prices for my Customers. Its going down, by the end of this week it should be better. And...

My boys from Buffalo released their first Greatest Hits CD today!!!!! Everyone has to go grab a couple of copies (I have 5 already one for every CD player, my car, and my computer). The Goo Goo Dolls are an amazing band that has been around for over 20 years!! Not only are the hott, amazing songwriters, musicians, and performers, but they use their fame and fortune to help out in ways bands just don't do anymore.
Well I'm off, its a beautiful day outside and I'm totally stressed out.

Retail Therapy at its Finest!

Well yesterday I took the whole afternoon to myself. A marathon five hour retail therapy session. Grant it I must have spent at least an hour just standing in checkout lines, but it was worth it! I spent too much, bought too much, but hey you only live once. My head was definatly not in the right place when I left the house in heels though. Who in their right mind goes shopping in heels? Especially when I am not used to wearing them, give me my beat up sneakers anyday. Well back to the grind today. Its cleaning day! Hey before I go check out those neat journals. I found a really cool place online for awesome note cards and journals. galison.com
Go check it out!

Sea Glass...

Check out my new Necklace!! I am in the process of making myself a 'Fiesta' Necklace in every color possible. I am so in love with this design. These little Lampwork beauties were created by Bead Artist Robyn Knapp (Shibumi). The rest of this set will go into a matching Bracelet. I have a few more sets of Lampwork Discs coming this week. By this weekend I hope to have a bunch more 'Fiesta' Necklaces to offer. So far everytime I leave the house wearing one it gets bought right off of my neck! These are just so versitle. Enough tooting my own horn... What do you think???

Thursday, November 8, 2007

Well our snow will be leaving today. I am sure it will be back soon though. Well I have a ton of gorgeous Lampwork Discs in all colors coming in sometime in the next week. From three different Bead Artists too, so they will all have slightly different looks to them. By next weekend I hope to have a bunch of my new 'Fiesta' Necklaces available. I just love wearing mine. It seems to go with everything. And my new packaging is all in. I will have a picture of it up on the FAQ's page this weekend. I just LOVE them! Wait until you see them. I decided to go with something other then the traditional Jewelry box.
All orders from last week were shipped yesterday. Thank you =) Well I am off, enjoy your day!

Here come the white stuff!!

Well its snowing out! Yes I said snow. Unfortunatly its turning into yucky slushy, slippery, yuck on the ground. But its pretty coming down. The doggies are trying to catch all of the snow flakes. I'm off to finish up morning chores and then its off to the Dr with my mom for her second shot in her pain pump trial.
On an order note: If you are waiting for anything it will be mailed by the latest, tomorrow morning.

Life, Puppies, and New Packaging...

Hi guys! I have been wanting to change my packaging to match my new site. Well today I was poking around on my most favorite packaging site, Nashville Wraps, and they have a brand spanking new little box. Thats the only hint you are getting! They are the cutest little thing I have ever seen!
My mom had her second shot in her trial today. The shot went great, we have to wait and see she may be having a tiny reaction. But so far so good.
It was so beautiful today, after dinner I took our three six month olds for a walk. Well stupid me I didn't put them on a three dog coupler, I put them each on their own flexi lead. Well my hands are suffering from cord burn from the leads. But they had a ball. Its so cute to see them go crazy in the leaves. Tomorrow is suposed to be nice too.
On the Jewelry front I cannot wait to get my chain, wire, and bead orders. In the meantime I am putting the finishing touches on a new ear wire design. Well I am off to rescue my pillows from Jake! It never fails there is always a doggy or two or three on them.

New Designs coming soon...

Hi guys! Well I just got done ordering everything up for some brand spanking new designs. Think lots of chain... I have had these ideas floating around in my head for months. But now I think I have my sketches perfected. I have been busily adding more goodies to my site. I started adding my Clasps to the Extras Catagory too. Tomorrow I take my mom for her second shot in her pain pump trial. If all goes well within the next two weeks she will have the pain pump implanted. We also found a new drug that is working wonders for her. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for her! Unfortunatly my Uncle has taken a turn for the worst. There is officially nothing more they can do for him. He has a wonderful wife and five amazing kids. He will not let anyone come and see him anymore, he doesn't want anyone to remember him in the state he is in now. Which I can understand, I would feel the same way. I cannot stand funerals or wakes either. I never wanted to see my Aunt or Lyndsey (our foundation bitch that had to be put down last year Oct 28 due to cancer) dead. I always knew thats all I would remember then. I remember my Aunt laughing and having a good time with us in her last months and Lyndsey rolling in the grass. Yesterday was the one year anniversary of us losing Lyndsey. It seems so much harder now then when we actually lost her. Its so amazing to see the influence she left in her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and great great grandkids.
Everybody keep your chin up! Smile, laugh, hug a tree, read a book, journal or do whatever makes you happy because no one knows just how long we have.

I also added a bunch of Earrings too. Let me know what you think =)

Step Two & Three Complete...

Hi guys! Well its been nuts as usual so I will give you the 411 and bring you up to speed on my mom and stuff:
-Last Thrusday she went into surgery again, to have the stimulator removed,
-Surgery went great at that time they also started the morphine pump trial,
-Morphine has now worn off but she is doing ok still in lots of pain from the surgery though,
-Next week Wed we go see her pain Dr and he will make another appt for the following week for her second shot of Morphine,
-If all goes well with that injection the following Thursday after that (I know at this point you are all totally lost trust me I am leaving out all of the five million times they have changed things in the last two weeks our heads are still spinning) Dr Landi will implant the pump,
-After that it takes 4-6 weeks of doseage changes and then she will be on her way!

It makes such a world of difference when you have good Dr's. Dr Landi and his staff have been amazing. My site is in production mode right now. I am hoping to have it up soon. I know I promised pictures they are coming! This morning I treated my dad to a morning out. We went to breakfast, had our hair cut, went to the track (and won!). It was nice we needed a break. If you have ever lived with someone who is in cronic pain, on very strong meds, withdrawls, ect you now the boat we are in. My move is being pushed back about a good month or more due to everything. I am off to feed the doggies and make dinner check back tomorrow for pictures.

Very sad day...

I wish I had some better news today. I just found out some horrible news, Katie Vasa from West End Designs, lost her husband today in a tragic accident. Please stop by to pass along your condolences and keep her in your prayers.
An update on my mom, Thursday's surgery went very well but was switched to a stimulator at the last minute. It was supposed to be a pain pump. This is not something that is for her she has been in terrible pain. Thursday they will be taking it out and starting the morphine pump trial then. Please keep her in your prayers as well. I am sick sick sick today. Some kind of nasty cold/fluy type thing. I hope it goes away quick. Maybe tomorrow I will snap some new pictures of my new shoes, that I LOVE. And the gorgeous fall scenery to cheer us all us.

Tuesday, October 9, 2007

Step One: Complete!

Hi guys! Well my moms pre ops were done today. After five hours, year I said five whole hours. Thats done! Tomorrows journey is to her neurologists to do a final 'go over' of the surgery and all that comes with it. I will post again after her trial begins on Thursday. So how is everyone liking the new Gallery on Flickr??? So far I have had some great feedback. I will be adding tons more photos over the next week or so. If you see something you like just drop me a line for more info on it. I bought myself a present a few days ago, some new shoes! A couple of really cute ones from Naturalizer. I am a size 4 1/2 so its hard to find cute shoes, well any shoes at all really. Nordstrom has a bunch but I am not going to spend over a hundred bucks for a pair of shoes. I'm terrible about shopping for myself, I always put it off. And I picked up one of those hairstyle magazines last week. I picked out my new doo too! New Katie here I come! I have to go brush some of the monkeys and finish up a few things. I'll be back in a few days with more updates on my mom.

I will be adding tons more pictures over the next week. Also up are new pieces for sale!! Until my new site is finished I will be listing pieces for sale there. Just email me to order. You are also able to leave comments about pieces too. Also in that Gallery is a section for my fantastic puppy buyers and all of the wonderful pictures they send me! I hope to have both sections finished by the weekend.
Don't forget Christmas will be here before you know it (scary isn't it!). Get your shopping done early and always remember to treat yourself to something too...

Under the weather...

Hi guys! I am pooped. Maybe its the weather but I am sicky. Head cold, body cold who knows! Hopefully a good nights sleep will help. Next week is a busy week with my mom so I may not update until the weekend. Just wanted to poke my head in and say Hi ;-) I will be back tomorrow...

New Site coming soon...

Hi guys! My site will be down for a bit as I will be working with Staci from Quirky Bird to creat a gorgeous new site! In the meantime I will be creating a few new off site galleries for your eye candy pleasure. Its amazing to go through the photos of my pieces through the years and see just how much I have grown as a designer in the past four years. I will be sending out a newsletter to remind everyone about my blog and that my site will be down. I am hoping to unviel everything by the end of the month...

MIA

Hey guys! I am extremely sorry for the delay in updating. I have been so busy with my mom. Please everyone say a prayer for her she will be going in next Thursday to start her pain pump trial. We have been trying to get her in for over a year. Its been a very long, very hard road for us all. Regretfully I haven't been working on any new pieces since that last one went off to SBS Wire Magazine. I do have tons of ideas floating around in my head and a bunch all sketched out too. I am dying to work with chain again. I have one idea for a Necklace, Bracelet, and Earrings set that has dangly Lampwork discs strung with chain.
You may have noticed the link to the left --> for Crazy, Sexy, Cancer. Kris Carr is the bainchild behind the show and her book Crazy, Sexy, Cancer Tips. Her show will be reairing on Discovery Health Oct 8 & 11. In case you missed it the first time it was on, or even if you didn't, its worth watching. She brings such a charismatic feeling to life. I am almost finished with the book and I highly recommend it to everyone. Even if you do not have cancer, or you don't know anybody with cancer, it is definatly worth reading.

New site coming soon...

Hi everybody! Just a heads up that my site will be down sometime in the next week for 24- 48 hours. I am switching servers so it will take a bit for that to go through. Yesterday afternoon my phone rings and guess who it is??? Godaddy.com making sure I was satisfied with everything and making sure I didn't need anything else!!! I was speechless. If you have a site and need Hosting or Domain names use Godaddy.com! They are fantastic. Hopefully by the end of next month my new site should be ready to unviel. I just love Staci's work and she is just the sweetest. I will have a new shopping cart too so you won't have to email me with your orders anymore. I am off to feed the monkeys!

Sneak Peek...

Hi everybody! Here is a sneak peek of my next Magazine Project... Its off in the mail to my Editor. And those gorgeous beadies you see are yet another fantastic set from Deborah Burch (Contessa). I have so many exciting design ideas in my sketchbook. Those will have to wait though. I am busy today trying to get my mom's next appointment moved up. I am so sick and tired of Dr's who have waaayyyyyy too many patients and don't have the time to care about any of them. They just throw them on the back burner. Its been over a year that we have been trying to get my mom in for a trial for her spine. We finally now have a good neurologist who is really trying to move things along. Please everyone say a prayer we can get her in soon and that this new pump will work for her. I put up a link on the side to a very cool site for Cancer info. Kris had a special on TLC a few weeks back and I was so taken by it. Even if you have no ties at all to cancer pick her book up trust me you will love it! It is so amazing the will power she has. Go check out Crazy Sexy Cancer let me know what you think. I also put up new Contest questions on the site...

Retro Infusion...

There will be tons of changes going on in my life in the next few months. Including a move! (more about that soon) Right now I am writing a Tutorial for Step By Step Wire Jewelry Fed/Mar Issue. Naturally Thunderbird is out of 18ga wire. So Fusion here I come! They are always in stock with what I need. But thats what I get for not keeping enough on hand...
One of the big changes will be a brand spanking new site! I will be working with Staci from Quirky Bird soon. I LOVE her designs and she is just the sweetest. Trust me you will LOVE my new site.
On a sad note my Uncle was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer and my Grandmother's Cancer is back and has spread. She has been in remission for two years now. My mom is also still battling with her back, but her neurologist has given us some hope with a few managment options. Now the next step is making appointments with another Dr who will be performing Trials. We have been trying for two weeks now with no luck!
The Bracelet above is from a Custom Order that I sent to Deborah Burch (Contessa). I recieved the sweetest card from Rachel Place (Fancy Pants) and fell in love with the colors on the front. I sent the card off to Deborah and she made me a ton of gorgeous beadies. These were a few that were in that set.
Please excuse the mess I made out of my site! Go check out the new Contest, everyone seems to love it! Enjoy your day ;-)

Clothesline and sinker...

Welcome to my new Blog!!! I decided to move my Studio News page to an actual blog again. Well yesterday I just finished up my very first Juried Art Show, the historic Clothesline Arts Festival. First I was just thrilled to be accepted into this amazing show, the depth of quality from all of the Artists was just amazing. Saturday was absolutly gorgeous, sunny with a hint of a breeze here and there. For majority of the day I had a packed booth to boot! I sold a nice mix of everything over the weekend. My newest design which debuted was a huge hit. I am not a huge pearl fan but I came up with a design I love. Its a three-strand Necklace that features my very own unique mix of Freshwater pearls. I painstakingly strung each pearl by hand too. You can twist them or leave them loose too. I also made the cones for each end and of coarse the clasp too. They look amazing on everyone too. Keep an eye out on the site for a few that will be up this weekend.

Sunday rained all day long, everything got soaked. I did seal the seams of my tent but forgot to scotch guard the rest of the top so when it was a heavy rain we got a nice mist in the tent. But that doesn't hurt the Jewelry. And the rain didn't stop diehard Clothesline fans.

I also have to say a huge Thanks to my two amazing assistants, my Aunt Andrea and my Dad. I was lucky to meet so many very talented Artists. I cannot wait for my next show...

And I also tweaked my site a little. Complete with my new Contest! I will have a ton of new Jewelry up on the site by this weekend.
